Boullier: McLaren must learn from Hungary mistake

After the first round of pitstops on Sunday the English driver sat in second position in the race, however with changeable conditions a mistake on the pit wall set him back.

Button changed to a new set of intermediate tyres anticipating a wet forecast, while all his major rivals switched to slick tyres for dry weather.

With no rain appearing, the 2009 world champion was forced to stop again to change his tyres, a move that saw him slip down the standings and ended any hopes of a podium finish at the track where he claimed his first Formula One win in 2006.

Both Boullier and Button rued the radar mistake in the aftermath, with the racing director insisting changes will be made to the decision-making process to ensure it does not happen again in the future.

"We have to reflect on this and find out why [it happened] because we don't want this to happen again," Boullier told Autosport. "I think we need to make it [the decision-making process] simpler and faster.

"It highlights what we need to change, so it's going to be easier for us to take decisions [in the future]."

Button finished the race in 10th place to earn a single point in the drivers' championship, a result that saw his grip on eighth place overall cut to 20 points by Williams' Felipe Massa.
