Marc Marquez on pole again in Texas

The Spaniard has picked up where he left off after winning the title in his rookie season last year, adding pole in Austin, Texas, to his race victory in Qatar last month, when he also started from the front of the grid.

Having led the way in practice, Marquez showed no signs of allowing the rest of the field to catch him, moving to the head of the timesheet with his first lap.

The 21-year-old - winner here last year - held onto that position until the end of the session, breaking his own lap record on his second trip around the track.

But he was not finished there.

Marquez surpassed his new best by posting a final time of two minutes and 2.773 seconds to capture pole.

Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa (+0.289secs) was the only man who came close to competing with Marquez on Saturday.

LCR's Stefan Bradl (+0.423secs) and open class frontrunner Aleix Espargaro (+0.467secs) - third and fourth respectively – well off the pace.

Espargaro is joined on the second row by the Movistar Yamahas of Jorge Lorenzo (+0.470secs) and Valentino Rossi (+0.471secs), while Cal Crutchlow (+1.007secs), who qualified seventh, ended the day with a mechanical issue.

The remaining places in the grid's top 10 are occupied by Bradley Smith (+1.027secs), Andrea Iannone (+1.069secs) and Andrea Dovizioso (+1.073secs).
