Kubica breaks leg

Kubica breaks leg after fall

01/11/2012 08:07:42 PM

Former Renault driver Robert Kubica was hospitalised on Wednesday after slipping on ice and re-injuring his leg in Italy.

Kubica, 27, suffered a suspected micro-fracture of the right tibia following the fall near his home in Pietrasanta.

He now reportedly requires an operation to insert a metal screw above his ankle, before spending a month in plaster.

The Polish driver missed the entire 2011 Formula One season after suffering life-threatening injuries during a high-speed crash in the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy.

Kubica's car left the road and struck a crash barrier, leaving him with a partially severed right forearm and multiple fractures to the right elbow, shoulder and leg.

He is now out of contract with the Renault team, which has been rebranded as Lotus for the 2012 season.
