Lewis Hamilton signed off McLaren's pre-season testing programme on a high note as the Briton topped the timesheets in Barcelona on Sunday.
The 2008 world champion racked up a mammoth 134 laps around the 2.875-mile Circuit de Catalunya as he switched between qualifying and race simulation runs, with his best time of one minute 20.472 seconds two-hundredths of a second faster than second-placed man Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing).
Less than a tenth of a second covered the top three as Ferrari's Felipe Massa finished in third place with a best time of 1min 20.539secs.
"I'm satisfied with the whole of testing, not just Barcelona," said Massa.
"Valencia and Jerez too - we did what we wanted to do, but it looks like it will be a very tough and competitive championship."
Fourth place went to the Force India of Adrian Sutil, the German once again displaying the sort of place which indicates the Silverstone-based team could be top-10 contenders come the first grand prix of 2010 in Bahrain on March 14.
Sebastian Vettel, who shared driving duties with Webber at Red Bull on the final day of testing, posted the fifth-fastest time from his 76 laps this morning, while Michael Schumacherwas sixth for Mercedes.
Schumacher said: "The four testing days here in Barcelona have helped us to make significant progress with the MGP W01 and I am feeling quite confident for the start of the season.
"We are heading the first race with a good feeling and we know that we will have our upgrades there. But most of all we know that our prospects for even the first races are looking very reasonable now."
Rubens Barrichello suffered a spin on his way to seventh for Williams, ahead of Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber), Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso) and Robert Kubica (Renault).
Heikki Kovalainen was 11th for Lotus with a best time nearly five seconds off Hamilton's pace, while Lucas Di Grassi brought up the rear for Virgin Racing, nine-tenths further back.
