Who is Ben Flower?

Flower is sure to be in for some hefty punishment, and rightly so after not only knocking Hohaia to the floor with his first punch but also hitting the New Zealander while he was unmoved on the ground.

So, just who is this man who is now one of the most controversial figures in the sporting world?

Born in Wales, Flower began his league career with the Cardiff Dragons as a teenager. During his time at the club he represented Wales in rugby union, appearing in the under 17s, 18s, 19s and 20s.

He was signed by the now defunct Celtic Crusaders in 2008, winning his first cap for the Welsh national rugby league side in the same year.

Flower was loaned out to the South Wales Scorpions in 2010, playing in the second-tier Championship but could manage only four appearances.

When the Crusaders collapsed in 2011, Wigan snapped up Flower, who had appeared for Wales in the European Cup the year before and was subsequently selected for the Rugby League Four Nations.

He has enjoyed a successful period at the KC Stadium, winning both the 2013 Super League and 2014 World Club Challenge.

And as we know now, Flower had a chance to add to his list of honours with the Warriors in this year's Super League grand final but his moment of madness just two minutes was the catalyst for his side's loss to St Helens.
