Teams begin their pre-season training camps over the next seven days with NFL hopefuls hoping to impress during this period.

The first-year players, including Hayne, will report to the 49ers' headquarters at Santa Clara for their training camp on July 27.

Hayne's key NFL dates

July 27, rookies report: All rookies undergo medical checks on the first day of camp. Hayne had foot surgery in Australia last month with the results and recovery to be analysed by 49ers medicos. No field work occurs. Meetings and light work outs only.

July 31, veterans report: Older team members report for camp. They get paid US$1800 a day while Hayne and the other rookies will receive $1000. Players face $30,000 fines until they report. Still no field work.

Aug. 1, first practice: No contact is allowed until Aug. 3 so the helmets and pads are kept away until then. From this date, it will be crucial for Hayne to excel in the match simulation drills.

Aug. 15, exhibition match at Houston: Hayne's first opportunity to play against opponents. He will share the carries with other backup running backs and will get a chance to shine on special teams (kickoffs and punts).

Aug. 23, exhibition match vs. Dallas: Hayne's first home exhibition game against rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

Aug. 29, exhibition match at Denver: By the third exhibition match, coaches have figured out an idea of their projected starters. Hayne will hopefully be in the mind of the 49ers coaches by this stage.

Sept. 1, roster cut to 75: Roster is cut from a maximum of 90 to 75. San Francisco have cut a running back at this stage the past four seasons.

Sept. 3, exhibition match vs. San Diego: The 49ers coaches will have an idea of their regular season by roster by now. This could be Hayne's last chance to impress.

Sept. 5, roster cut to 53: The final roster cut with numbers reduced to 53. Some players will be placed in injury-related lists. There is a possibility that Hayne's foot injury may allow the 49ers to retain him on an injured list as he continues to learn the game. Hayne could be on this list up to the 15th week of the regular season.

Sept. 6, practice squad forms: Practice squad players earn $6,600 a week (instead of $25,588 on the regular-season roster) and their role is to be "opposition" at practice. The squad is 10-man and players aren't allowed to play games.

Sept. 14, regular season opens: San Francisco begin their NFL season with a home game against Minnesota Vikings (Tues Sept 15 AEST).
