MORE: The Lurker - NRL Rumour File - Monday

Perry gone

By the time you read this, Manly CEO Dave Perry will have packed his stapler, paperclips and desk calendar into a box and headed out of his Narrabeen HQ to Centrelink.

Perry is no longer a DMW (Dead Man Walking). He's already a goner, telling staff and friends on Monday that he won't be returning.

Expect an official announcement soon.

So who takes his place? As with most things at Manly, it won't necessarily be a straight-forward process.

There are two main contenders from what The Repeat Set has been told – one who could be a bit of a worry and one with the perfect credentials and pedigree to sort out the mess down there.

We'll watch on with interest.

Pulver dodges heat

Talking of CEOs, could someone please get back to us and explain how Bill Pulver is still in a job after the Patston-McKenzie-Beale debacle?

Anyone?

Origin affects Aussies

Those who argued Australia's Four Nations side looked drained and disinterested on Saturday night after a long season were howled down by those suggesting the Kiwis carried almost as many NRL players.

True. But there is one big difference. It's called State of Origin.

New Zealanders don't compete in it and 15 of the Kangaroos who went around in the 30-12 loss did.

Anyone who has played in an Origin series will tell you how much it takes out of you, especially when the body is yearning for a break at the end of the year.

It's still no excuse – the Kiwis were good and Australia were woeful – but it's another reason why this tournament is poorly timed.

Banned Luke leads Haka

Still on the Four Nations and why was suspended New Zealand hooker Issac Luke allowed to lead the Kiwis' pre-match haka?

Surely a ban is a ban? Apparently not in the land of rugby league's rubbery international laws.

Batsmen also at fault

Don't sheet all the blame home to Australia's slow bowlers for our heavy first Test defeat to Pakistan.

Our batsmen dropped us right in it with their paltry first innings return of 303 on a pitch that looked as flat at the Nullarbor.

Alex Doolan has to go for starters. He's simply not up to Test standard

Warney back on the prowl

And news just in from Shane Warne World.

The leg spinning great is single after breaking up with the 'amazing' Emily (whoever that is) and turned to his Twitter followers for advice on who he should date next...as you do.

Some suggested he should turn gay or look for someone with substance like Brynne Edelesten. Or date a female version of Boonie or Merv.

Back to what you were doing and we'll keep the updates coming in.

Wanderers batting above average

The Western Sydney Wanderers are just 90 minutes away from pulling off the greatest achievement in the history of Australian domestic football.

They take a 1-0 first leg lead over Al Hilal to Riyadh and who would bet against them finishing off the business after what they've done so far?

In financial terms, WSW don't deserve to be on the same pitch as Al Hilal.

The Saudi Arabian club flew a plane-load of supporters to Australia for the first leg and met all their expenses for a couple of days in Sydney.

The Wanderers did at least provide the media with a plate of soggy sangers and greasy quiches on Saturday night.
