Stalwart Peacock to hang up his boots and join Hull KR

Super League legend Jamie Peacock has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season and leave Leeds Rhinos to join Hull KR as football manager.

Peacock – who turns 38 in December – is in his 10th campaign at the Rhinos and conceded last week that the rigours of the game are taking a toll.

"How I feel today makes me realise this season is definitely the last. Jet lag x car crash x man flu x fallen down 60 flights of steps," the forward posted on Twitter following last week's 26-14 victory over Wigan Warriors.

And Leeds confirmed on Friday that Peacock will hang up his boots later this year and join Hull KR behind the scenes.

"I have had a great time at Leeds and learnt so much about how the club is run from top to bottom," said Peacock.

"The Rhinos are a blueprint for a successful sporting business and the challenge for me now is to take those lessons and try and implement my own thoughts in a new environment."

Peacock has clocked up over 500 appearances for club and country during a glittering career that has seen him win the Grand Final eight times – five with Leeds and three at Bradford Bulls – as well as the Challenge Cup on three occasions.

He was voted Super League's Man of Steel in 2003 and was shortlisted for the award in the last two seasons.

Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington said: "He has been at the heart of all our success over the past decade and his performances and influence at the club cannot be overestimated.

"He will leave a lasting legacy and all our best wishes will be with him when he swaps his training kit for a new suit at the end of the season."
