Performances of the Weekend

Skill – Kevin Naiqama

It was absolutely incredible!

It seems as though the defenders had given up on the chase, when Kevin Naiqama launched himself into the air and over the dead ball line, flicking the ball back into the arms of a patiently waiting James Tedesco, who finished off the amazing play.

Not many would be able to replicate it, and it’s a show of skill that lands Naiqama a nomination for Performance of the Weekend.

Strength – Jeremy Cameron

Not only is it one of the most incredible things ever seen on an AFL field (despite the fact that it may have only resulted in a behind), the strength Cameron showed in performing the bicycle kick in a tight and congested GWS forward-line, was an act that had the commentators lost for words.

It’s been hailed, “The behind of the century,” and it lands Jeremy Cameron a nomination for Performance of the Weekend.

Endurance – Tarek Elrich

It looked as though Adelaide were going to make short work of Melbourne City, leading 2-0 just 30 minutes into the match at Coopers Stadium, when Tarek Elrich lit up the pitch, going on a searching run down Adelaide’s left wing. Weaving through five or six defenders, Elrich moved past City’s goalkeeper, slotting the goal with a terrific finish.

Immediately, the commentators cried that it was the A-League's goal of the season, with some calling for Elrich to be awarded the Puskas award for slotting FIFA’s International Goal of the Year.

Many have even gone on to compare Elrich’s effort to Maradona’s Goal of the Century. The 80-metre run is enough to earn Elrich a nomination for Performance of the Weekend.

Mental toughness – Patty Mills

The Aussie-born San Antonio Spur was pivotal in his side’s series-levelling Playoff Game 2 last week, following a spanking at the hands of the LA Clippers in Game 1. Mills responded perfectly, with a Playoff-high 18 points, including two clutch freethrows that sent the game into overtime – with the Spurs going on to win.

Mills’ mental toughness proved the catalyst for the Spurs to crush the Clippers in Game 3, however, LA have gone on to tie the series again 2-2. How will our Aussie superstar respond?

Either way, it’s Mills’ mental toughness that sees the Spurs level rather than down and on the ropes. He’s earned himself a nomination for Performance of the Weekend.
