Performances of the Weekend

Strength - Paul Gallen

Gallen spent Tuesday night last week in hospital looking after his sick daughter, the next day he came down with a flu and spent the day vomiting.

He had to be admitted to hospital on Thursday and didn’t make any training sessions during the week with the Sharks.

Then without any preparation he came out on Friday night to lead his team to a big win over the Knights.

“He never ceases to amaze me,” Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said after the game.

Skill - Ben Hunt

Hunt was instrumental in Brisbane’s huge Friday night victory over the Chooks scoring two tries and setting up another.

He was having a great game even before scoring an unbelievable match winner in the 84th minute with a superb play to evade James Maloney and then dummy himself past RTS.

Mental Toughness - Essendon

They’ve carried the weight of the ASADA drama since 2013 and basically didn’t compete in the NAB Cup.

However the underdone Bombers managed to knock-off the ‘unbeatable’ reigning back-to-back premiers on Sunday against all odds.

That performance showed a heap of mental toughness as the Hawks threw everything at them late. Less resilient teams surely wouldn’t have held on.

Endurance - Josh Kennedy

Kennedy was traded from Carlton to the West Coast Eagles for Chris Judd in 2007 and has since shown himself to be the better end of the deal.

He kicked a whopping 10 goals against his old club on Friday night, the third time he has done so in his career.

What a display of endurance to have such a great game against your former employee.
