Panthers suffer McKendry blow

Penrith's big win over Parramatta on Monday night has come at a cost after prop Sam McKendry suffered a fractured neck during the victory.

The Panthers have revealed that McKendry suffered a C6 vertebrae fracture during the match at Centrebet Stadium.

The club, however, has refused to speculate about the extent of time the 23-year-old will miss until he consults a specialist.

Former Penrith captain and current director Greg Alexander said it was amazing McKendry stayed on the field.

"Sam played on for 30 minutes with the injury," Alexander told Sportal.

"He's up and walking around today so we'll just have to see what happens from here. hopefully he'll be back on the field soon."

In other news emerging from that match, it seems that Eels co-captain Tim Mannah may not have broken his leg during the match after all.

In a somewhat coy tweet on Wednesday afternoon, Mannah simply said: "Scan results were positive. God is good."

It is also still unknown how long Mannah will miss for the Eels, his injury following on from a tough week where news reports brought up his brother Jon's battle with cancer - one he ultimately lost - and linked that with allegations of peptide use at Cronulla.

The report did not say Mannah had taken the banned substances but still caused the family a fair degree of pain.
