Owens stars in Vikings win, Giants slay Dragons

Jack Owens finished with 18 points as Super League strugglers Widnes Vikings romped to a welcome 46-16 triumph over Castleford Tigers.

Full-back Owens kicked seven of his eight goal attempts at the Select Security Stadium, while also scoring one of Widnes' eight tries.

Patrick Ah Van and Rhys Hanbury were on the scoresheet twice as Denis Betts' men blew away the Tigers, who were looking to build on last weekend's 25-4 win over Hull Kingston Rovers.

Ben Roberts, Oliver Holmes and Michael Shenton all scored tries to add respectability to the scoreline, but they failed to replicate the kind of form that saw them win four of their past five matches.

At the John Smith's Stadium, Aaron Murphy and Ukuma Ta'ai both scored twice as Huddersfield Giants swept aside Catalans Dragons 38-14.

The Giants had lost their past three matches, but had too much for a Dragons side who now languish in 10th.
