A popular fixture on the rugby league calendar, Magic Weekend sees an entire round of Super League fixtures take place at the same venue across two days.

The event has previously been held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and most recently at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City.

St James' Park will provide the backdrop for next season's event and Blake Solly, Super League general manager, said: "We did receive interest in staging Magic Weekend from a number of other venues but none provided as good a fit as Newcastle for many reasons, including its transport links, hotel and accommodation options and opportunities for our fans to enjoy a weekend to remember."

An aggregate attendance of 64,552 attended this year's Magic Weekend, a record for the seven-match showpiece.

Newcastle will now play host to the ninth Magic Weekend next May.
