Late Aiton try sees Rhinos overcome Giants' fightback

Leeds Rhinos continued their 100 per cent start to the Super League season by staving off a superb Huddersfield Giants fightback at Headingley.

Paul Aiton's late try saw the Rhinos prevail 28-24, after the Giants had come back from 18-0 down to lead 24-22 with 11 minutes to go.

However, Aiton wriggled over with six minutes remaining to ensure the Rhinos move top of the table having won all three of their matches, while the Giants remain without a point to their name.

Carl Ablett, Adam Cuthbertson and Ryan Hall all went over for the home side as they roared into a commanding lead after 26 minutes.

Jamie Ellis touched down for the Giants, and Joe Wardle's try reduced the arrears to 18-12 at the break.

Tom Briscoe's score gave the Rhinos a 10-point lead soon after the interval, but Huddersfield led for the first time as Kyle Wood and Brett Ferres went over in the space of five minutes.

The last word went to Aiton and Leeds, however, as they moved to the summit above defending champions St Helens.
