It's Rogers v Folau

Experience will do battle with youth when Titan Mat Rogers squares up against hulking Broncos star Israel Folau at Skilled Park on Friday night - and the veteran says he's under no illusions about the impending clash.

Rogers will be given the job of taming the mercurial Folau in the fierce south-east Queensland derby and all eyes will be on whether the 34-year-old can contain the 102kg powerhouse.

But not only does Folau have superhuman strength on his side, he also has history.

In five games played against the Titans - for both Melbourne and Brisbane - the AFL-bound Folau has never been on a losing side and has scored a remarkable total of 50 points.

Hoping for a little bit of help from the press on Thursday, Rogers jokingly asked for advice on how to approach the match-up with Folau saying: "If you can tell me about one way to stop him that would be good."

"He's a big fella that's for sure he gets a lot of attention and rightly so."

"I think there have been plenty of coaches before who have tried to stop him and failed."

"He's a great player but there are 12 other players on the field and their wingers, full-backs and forwards, they're all playing good football."

"And they're also led by probably the best player in the world in Darren Lockyer."

While Rogers will have his work cut out for him defensively, the Titans centre also touched on the need to improve finishing in the final attacking build-up.

"That's something pretty glaring to come from the game last week. I was probably the worst offender of all of that," he said.

"Hopefully we get it right and a few passes stick and we can finish up our opportunities. At the end of the day that's probably what cost us the game (against the Tigers)."

Currently sitting in fifth place, Gold Coast is in desperate need of a win after losing its past two matches, and while a loss wouldn't be disastrous for John Cartwright's men the possibility of dropping out of the eight may occur if results down the table go against the Titans.

Rogers stressed how important getting the two points will be in Friday night's match and the remainder of the Titans' season, focusing on the stark comparison of either winning a minor premiership or missing out on a finals spot all together.

"I don't think a minor premiership isn't out of the question and out of the eight isn't out of the question," he said.

"It's definitely game time and everyone's excited about the feeling in the air, but it doesn't matter if we don't show up to play."

"We were really disappointed against Newcastle and we sort of turned it around last week and hopefully we can take another step forward this week."

"We've been happy with our defensive efforts so we're just going into it with the same sort of attitude and I think we are prepared well enough to do that."
