Flash deal still running

The Eels’ bid to sign point-scoring fullback Michael Gordon from Cronulla isn’t dead yet.

The deal collapsed last week when Sharks officials decided again releasing Gordon, much to the anger of the veteran fullback.

But I’m hearing Parra will have one final crack at securing Gordon over the next 48 hours and remain hopeful of a positive outcome.

The Sharks have a glut of fullbacks with Gordon, brilliant youngster Valentine Holmes, former Dally M Medallist Ben Barba and the speedy Nathan Gardner all on their books.

The Eels have been struggling for a fullback since Jarryd Hayne’s shock move to the NRL and are hoping Gordon can solve their problems.

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan was prepared to let Gordon, who comes off contract at the end of the season, go before June 30.

But he was over-ruled by club officials in a move that upset both Gordon and the Eels.

Origin ticket give-away

That Origin I at ANZ Stadium won’t be a sell-out is an embarrassing look for the game.

The worst part is the NRL has basically accepted its fate and will now accept a 50-60,000 turn out when the joint should be packed.

Ticket prices have played a big part in it but please spare me the excuses about visits from EPL sides Tottenham and Chelsea impacting on Origin.

Anyway, Sportal have ensured at least four more fans will turn up. They’ve asked me to give their ticket giveaway a plug so here it is:
