Hunt claims he was forced to rat on team mates

Hunt, speaking with his wife Emma by his side, said that it was a difficult thing to do, but one that would save him from jail time.

When asked what the most hurtful thing he had seen written or said about him in the media was, Hunt’s response was predictable.

“The whole notion of ratting out my mates… dobbing my mates in to sort of save myself was pretty disappointing,” Hunt said.

“I was compelled to talk, I was compelled to turn up to the CCC (Queensland  Crime and Corruption Commission) and obviously talk - and if I didn’t the repercussions were pretty serious.”

Those repercussions would have involved jail time for the former Maroons, Suns and current Reds player.

Hunt was forced to name 12 players that took part in the Suns end of season celebration bender at the end of 2014, all of which he’s spoken to.

Hunt is unable to publicly name the dozen players who were involved in the scandal, and given the opportunity to, said that he wouldn’t reveal them anyway.

However, the CCC know who the players are, and it is a very real possibility that these names will be made public at the conclusion of their investigation.

“I’ve spoken to them,” Hunt said.

“They’re doing well. Their concern was for me.”

Hunt’s public perception is clearly tarnished, as is that of the Gold Coast Suns and the AFL as a whole.

Personally however, Hunt is looking to mend broken relationships and still receives counselling, but believes that: “this has been the greatest awakening that I’ve had.”
