Graham back to beef up Bulldogs

Canterbury coach Des Hasler says grand final biter James Graham will go to his grave believing he was innocent of the crime.

The Englishman returns against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium after seeing out a 12-match ban for his now infamous nip on Billy Slater's left ear, but there is no sign of remorse or regret.

Graham refuses to speak about the incident and, according to Hasler, has not changed his stance since pleading not guilty to the biting charge at the judiciary hearing on October 5.

"That's still debatable (Graham's guilt). He's paid his price now (so) leave him be and get on with it," Hasler said on Wednesday.

"He's moved on."

Asked if Graham would go to his grave believing he didn't bite Slater, Hasler responded: "He believes he was (innocent)."

The prop's seven-month lay-off is no cause for concern, according to the Dogs boss.

Hasler rates Graham as one of the hardest and most dedicated trainers he's known.

"He's (got) experience, he's got a fantastic work ethic and he's an international player," Hasler said.

"He's had to ensure an off-season and he's in really good shape.

"It's like his season's starting. He's a pretty smart footballer so it shouldn't take him too long to get back into it.

"James is really keen to get back out there."

Lock Greg Eastwood revealed that the biting subject was off limits around Graham, apart from the inevitable football club joke or two.

But teammates have been left in awe by the front-rower's hunger for hard work and professionalism during his enforced break.

"He's been showing us how fitness is done. He is one of those freaks that can run all day," Eastwood said.

"It's been a long break but he's as fit as anyone going around.

"It's just great to have the Pommy back in the side. He brings that little extra class to the forwards. He can't wait and we're excited to have him back."

Grand final front-row partner Sam Kasiano made also make his return from a shin splints injury despite not being named in the team to meet the Tigers.
