Flower: I did not deserve standing ovation

Wigan Warriors forward Ben Flower says the standing ovation he was given upon his return from suspension was not deserved.

Flower returned to action against Warrington Wolves on Thursday following a six-month ban after his red card for punching an already knocked out Lance Hohaia in October's Grand Final defeat to St Helens.

As he came on as a replacement during the first half of Wigan's 30-20 win over Warrington, Flower was given a rousing reception from the home fans at the DW Stadium.

"I was surprised how calm I was, with everything going through my head about doing the right things," Flower said.

"But I didn't expect such a big loud roar and a standing ovation. For the fans to stick by me like that is a credit to them.

"It was lovely for them to do that but at the end of the day I do not deserve that because I let the club down massively.

"I will get back to being a more aggressive player as I get fitter but aggressive does not mean that I am going to be a dirty player.

"What happened in the Grand Final was a massive mistake."
