Corporate waffle almost trips up Ben Barba

Having departed Brisbane, Barba arrived in the Shire on Wednesday and within a few hours found himself speaking to Sharks TV for the Cronulla website.

But Barba seemed to forget he was speaking to the official communication channel for his new club and not just some random journo when asked whether he’d be excited to run out at Remondis Stadium next year.

His response started strongly with: “Yeah, it’s pretty exciting.”

But the 25-year-old found his words tangled a little when he followed this up by reverting to that old chestnut – corporate waffle!

“As a dream you dream to run out onto NRL grounds and football stadiums, so look this will just be like running out on any other stadium.”

At least he quickly realised he was meant to be selling how delighted he was to be at the Sharks when he quickly added:

“But also glad to call it my home now.”

Maybe we can make some excuses for Barba, after all it had been a whirlwind few days leaving the Broncos and rocking up at the Sharks.

Having said that he hardly sold himself as being the gun player the Sharks so desperately needed when asked how happy he’d be playing at No.6 for Shane Flanagan’s side.

Once again Barba started his answer well before heading into dodgier territory thanks to corporate speak.

“It’s a position I think I really got used to at the back end of this year, I’m happy that he (Shane Flanagan) wants me to play there,” Barba said.

But here was where the problems arose.

“And, look there was probably no need for me to come here and play football,” he added.

“Mick Gordon there, he’s such a great player and a player I didn’t mind watching and playing against.”
