Catalans claim valuable win

Catalans Dragons climbed out of the bottom four in Super League with a hard-fought 32-24 triumph over Hull KR on Saturday.

Back-to-back away defeats at Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants had seen Laurent Frayssinous' men slip into a position of peril near the foot of the table, but a return to home comforts in Perpignan proved welcome as the French club edged a 10-try encounter.

Catalans now sit seventh, a point above ninth-placed Rovers and only one shy of fourth-placed Huddersfield in a congested mid-table.

Maurice Blair and Ben Cockayne crossed to give the visitors the lead following Jason Baitieri's opening try, but Catalans were back in front by the interval courtesy of scores from Gadwin Springer and Michael Oldfield.

Eloi Pelissier went over early in the second half, with Thomas Bosc's third conversion of four extending Catalans' lead to 10 points.

Rovers refused to lie down, but tries for Kieran Dixon and Josh Mantellato, who also kicked four goals, proved in vain as Benjamin Garcia and Elliott Whitehead added further four-pointers for the home team.
