Broncos players celebrate

No one knows better than Bennett what it takes to win a premiership and he was unusually enthusiastic following Thursday's 47-12 thumping of reigning champs South Sydney.

With the win the Broncos moved two points clear of the Roosters and Cowboys atop the NRL ladder.

They host the Storm at Suncorp Stadium next Thursday before going in search of the club's first title since 2006.

"Timing's everything, I mean it's important to go into the finals with some confidence behind you, so regardless of what happens next week we're in great shape going into the playoffs," Bennett said after the eight-tries-to-two annihilation of the Bunnies at ANZ Stadium.

"We know we defend well, we know we can compete with the best teams and after that you just need a bit of luck and turn up on the day like we did here today and want to play football."

Bennett said the decision to spend the week in Sydney after Saturday's 12-10 loss to the Roosters paid off as his Broncos produced 'wonderful football' against a Bunnies side missing Greg Inglis.

"It certainly could have backfired on us as well but I could tell by the mood of the players that they were pretty pleased to have five days in Sydney," Bennett said.

"Just not getting on that plane and going home and sitting around airports, dragging yourself off the plane – we do it all season and it was just nice to stay here and be able to relax.

"We handled it good to (the players') credit, you can go the reverse on that stuff sometimes and go out the back door if they get too relaxed.

"We've got good pros in the team, long-time players in the NRL and they understood the benefit of it.

"There's no doubt we didn't look like a team that was tired out there tonight, I know that much, and we had a five-day turnaround after probably the toughest game we played all season last Saturday night."
