Melbourne Storm full-back Billy Slater was ruled out of Australia's ANZAC Test against New Zealand on Tuesday after failing to prove his fitness at training.

Slater, who injured his shoulder earlier in April while playing in the NRL, was named in Australia's squad for the Test in Brisbane in the hope he would be ready.

But the 31-year-old was officially ruled out by the Kangaroos after Tuesday's training session.

"Unfortunately @billyslater just couldn't get right for the Test Match on Friday and is out," the Kangaroos confirmed on Twitter.

Slater has been replaced in the squad by Sydney Roosters centre Michael Jennings, with coach Tim Sheens expected to push South Sydney Rabbitohs star Greg Inglis into full-back.
