Roosters: Team Preview

The arrival of Brian Smith as coach and the likes of Todd Carney, Jason Ryles (England), Phil Graham (Raiders), Daniel Conn (Titans) and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Sea Eagles) has been offset by the departures of Craig Fitzgibbon, Mark O'Meley, Willie Mason, Sia Soliola and Shane Shackleton but fans will be hoping that surely they won't have to endure a repeat of the disastrous 2009 campaign?

What has to go right: After the nightmare of the past couple of years arguably the most important thing for the Roosters in 2010 will be for their players to simply stay out of trouble off the field. In this day and age of the almighty dollar they just can't afford to be risking sponsorships when their players stuff up.

What could go wrong: Brian Smith's first season in charge of Newcastle was a rocky one as he fell out with some of the club's favourite sons and the club struggled on the field. Renowned as a prickly character throughout his time as a coach Smith will be hoping for a smoother debut year at Bondi Junction than the one in Newcastle.

Nightmare headline: Carney moves in with Jake Friend

Sportal prediction: 12th
