Manly's hard-fought win over Melbourne has been soured with confirmation winger David Williams will miss the rest of the season with a broken neck.
The Sea Eagles confirmed on Saturday Williams will not play again in 2011 after he fractured the sixth vertebra.
Williams suffered the horrific injury in the first half, when he collided with Melbourne winger Anthony Quinn and fullback Billy Slater while trying to score a try.
After a lengthy delay in the game, Williams was carried from the field on a stretcher with his neck placed in a protective brace.
The injury will require surgery and at least four months of rehabilitation.
And in more bad news for the Sea Eagles, star fullback Brett Stewart suffered a medial ligament injury to his left knee and will miss at least two weeks.
Stewart had scans on Saturday morning and results on Monday will reveal the extent of the damage.
