The Wests Tigers have recorded a convincing 28-4 victory over North Queensland in their first NRL trial match played in horrendous conditions in Mackay on Friday night.
Despite dominating possession in the early stages, the Cowboys couldn't break the Tigers' defence until the 39th minute when Manase Manuokafoa crossed for the first points of the game.
It would prove to be the Cowboys' only points as a converted try from Wests full-back Jake Mullaney gave his side the lead before Junior Moors and Englishman Mark Flanagan scored to push the advantage out to 14.
It became 22-4 when Flanagan scored his second try and Josh David put the icing on the cake after a great run from winger Rhys Pritchard.
"It was a very good effort in the heavy conditions and the pleasing thing is there are no major injuries,"’ said Wests Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.
"It was a terrible night for rugby league. The game was played in thick mud."
"It was a forwards game. There was plenty of drop ball."
"(Bryce) Gibbs, centres Geoff Daniela and Jake Clarke and hooker Daniel Fitzhenry did well in the first half."
"Corby did well at dummy half in the second half while Arana Taumata added plenty of spark. Moors and Flanagan were also very good."
