Wests Tigers have received a major boost ahead of their NRL season opener against Manly after dual international Lote Tuqiri was granted an early release from English rugby union club Leicester.
The 30-year-old, whose contract was not due to expire until March 31, is expected to join his team-mates next Wednesday, leaving him five full days to prepare for the Monday night clash with the Sea Eagles.
Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys confirmed he had reached agreement with Leicester on Monday night following lengthy negotiations.
"Lote will return home to Australia with his family after Leicester's match against London Irish this weekend," Humphreys said.
"It is terrific news and a real bonus for us on the eve of the 2010 season."
"I greatly appreciate Leicester's co-operation in making it possible."
Coach Tim Sheens added: "Lote's arrival will give the team a real lift as we prepare for Manly. We will monitor his condition but as long as he comes through the weekend's game (against London Irish) injury free and recovers well from his flight, I would expect he would be involved in the round one match."
Tuqiri, who was shown the door by the ARU last season following an undisclosed disciplinary breach, arrives at the joint-venture club on a three-year deal.
The former Queensland Origin star played his last game for the Brisbane Broncos in 2002 before making the switch to rugby union.
His West Tigers debut will also double as his 100th NRL game.
