Melbourne Storm have signed veteran front rower Jason Ryles from the Roosters on one-year deal.
The 32-year-old front rower has previously played for the Roosters, St George Illawarra and French Super League club Catalans, along with representing Australia.
Storm football operations manager Frank Ponissi said the club had been pleasantly surprised by Ryles' availability.
"We were looking for an experienced front rower to complete our front-row roster and when we heard Jason was available we moved quickly to secure his signature," Ponissi said.
"Melbourne Storm has a strong record of signing experienced front rowers to play alongside a number of specifically earmarked development players, to create a well balanced playing list.
"Next year we have six NYC players joining the fulltime squad, along with several players heading into their second and third year of NRL, therefore we firmly believe this experience is vital for the overall balance of the list.
"The most important factor with Jason was his desire to play with Melbourne Storm and our key staff has been extremely impressed with his attitude. We know he is proven club contributor both on and off the field, fitting perfectly into our current recruitment policy."
Ryles confirmed the announcement and the background of the discussions, which led to him signing with Melbourne.
"Melbourne offers another wonderful opportunity and I’m excited about the chance to work with a number of influential people via a proven system,"Ryles said.
"Having been coached by Craig Bellamy at representative level over a number of years, I have always wanted to be coached by him at club level. That was a big factor in my decision and I’m really looking forward to the challenge."
