A first-half brace of tries from Australian centre Matt King helped Warrington to a 14-10 win over Huddersfield and lift his side to second place in the Engage Super League.
The sides were locked at 10-10 at the break and heading for a draw until winger Chris Hicks, who scored in the club's 25-16 Challenge Cup win over the Giants last August, came up with the match-winner.
Impressive stand-off Kevin Brown and centre Paul Whatuira scored the tries that put Huddersfield 10-6 up and Wolves head coach Tony Smith was delighted with the way his side bounced back from their heart-breaking home defeat by Wigan.
"The game could have gone either way," he said. "We were in a battle last week against Wigan and it didn't quite go for us. It was very pleasing to come out on top this time."
"Coming to Huddersfield is very tough. You can't play through them. You have to find another way and I was very pleased with how the players responded to the physical aspects of the game."
"I thought Matt King was absolutely unbelievable. He was the best player on the field by a country mile."
A hat-trick of tries on his debut by winger Shaun Ainscough was not enough to prevent Castleford going down 24-20 at home to Hull KR on Saturday, with teenage prop Liam Watts scoring his first try for the visitors just before the end.
Newcomers South Wales Scorpions made a winning start to their Co-operative Championship One campaign with a dramatic 22-20 victory over Workington at the Gnoll.
