Hard time for Dymock

Hard time for Dymock

11/14/2011 07:42:02 PM

Jim Dymock admits he took news of his demotion as Canterbury coach hard but has vowed to support new boss Des Hasler in turning the club around.

Dymock officially held the Bulldogs' reins for less than 40 days before Hasler's sudden arrival brought about an abrupt change of guard.

The former Sea Eagles mentor was installed as Canterbury coach on Saturday, less than 24 hours after being sacked by Manly, with Dymock pushed back to an assistant's role.

"(I was) definitely disappointed but it's a good coup for the club," Dymock said after Hasler was officially unveiled as head coach.

"I've got to put the club before myself."

"To get someone of Dessie's calibre is great for the club."

"It's not about me it's all about the club so I'm very happy."

"If the club performs well I'm sure in the future I'll get the run."

Canterbury CEO Todd Greenberg made no apology for bringing Hasler in over the top of Dymock, explaining: "It made no sense not to fast track it."

"It was in all our interests to bring him in (so) let's get on with it."

"It's a great result for the blue and whites."

The Bulldogs have inherited one of the great modern day coaches but also one of the NRL's more eccentric and hard-to-handle characters.

Hasler arrives at Belmore with a reputation for wanting to be involved in every facet of a club - a trait that contributed to his demise at the Sea Eagles.

The Dogs received a taste of life under Hasler at his first press conference on Monday, the new coach berating a journalist for asking too many questions before remonstrating with two other reporters for arriving late.

Looking awkward and out of place in a blue and white Canterbury polo shirt, the dual premiership winner did manage to lighten the mood slightly when he joked about working a free e-tag into his contract stipulations due to the sudden increase in travel from the northern beaches to Belmore.

Despite Hasler's reputation for interfering, Greenberg can only see positives in the appointment.

"Without wanting to state the obvious we're absolutely delighted to welcome Des to the Bulldogs," he said.

"He's without doubt one of the great coaches of the modern era and as I've stated before this appointment is a significant coup for the Bulldogs."

"We'll form a strong team and this is a great result for the blue and whites."
