Further betting rorts denied

09/07/2010 05:45:51 AM

The NSW Police strike force set-up to investigate the NRL betting scandal denies its brief has been widened to include up to half a dozen matches.

Strike Force Suburb (SFS) is investigating betting activity surrounding the Round 24 match between the Bulldogs and the Cowboys in which an inordinate amount of money was placed on North Queensland to open the scoring with a penalty goal.

Bulldogs prop Ryan Tandy, who gave away a penalty in front of the posts in the opening minutes of that match, has denied any involvement in a betting sting.

According to SFS detectives, that is the only match of interest at this stage despite media reports declaring six 'suspect' games were under investigation.

"At this time, police are not aware of any other matters involving similar activity and can confirm that no further matters have been referred to police," the NSW Police Force said in a statement on Tuesday.

"As a matter of course, police continue to liaise with representatives from the National Rugby League."

"Investigations are continuing and no further information is available at this time."
