Covell out for the year

Covell out for the year

04/07/2010 06:38:10 AM

Cronulla has suffered a major blow on Wednesday as scans confirmed winger Luke Covell will miss the remainder of the 2010 season with a ruptured ACL.

Twenty-eight-year-old Covell tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the Sharks drought-breaking 11-0 win over Parramatta last Saturday, their first victory of the new campaign.

It was revealed earlier in the week that Covell played on for more than 25 minutes with the suspected tear and his team-mates had nothing but admiration for the experienced campaigner.

"Thankfully for Luke, he has a positive outlook on footy and life in general," said Sharks welfare manager Tony McFayden.

"And, with a young family he has the full support of the club."

Nathan Stapleton will take Covell's place on the wing against Manly this Sunday.
