Western Jewel wins Perth Cup

12/31/2011 10:14:42 AM

Western Jewel has taken out the 2400 metre Perth Cup at Ascot racecourse on Saturday afternoon.

The Grant Williams trained horse, who finished fourth a year ago, executed the perfect race to hand owners Bob and Sandra Peters their fourth Perth Cup victory.

God has Spoke was second with the Simon Miller-trained Senhor Da Gama third and Tranquility ran fourth.

Race favourite Kincaple could only manage a 12th place finish and stewards informed that he was lame in the off fore leg and also had respiratory problems.

But the race belonged to Western Jewel and the mare has now started 27 times for 8 wins and 7 placings.
