Western Australian champion Northerly has been honoured by being inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

The two-time Cox Plate winner, renowned for his fighting qualities and his toughness, joins the elite of Australian racehorses, recognised alongside the likes of Phar Lap, Carbine, Tulloch, Kingston Town and Makybe Diva.

Northerly won the 2001 and 2002 Cox Plates, the 2002 Caulfield Cup and the 2001 and 2003 Australian Cups.

The champion will be honoured at the Australian Racehorse of the Year and Hall of Fame Awards on Sunday along with Sky High, a star of the 1950s and 60s who won both the Cox Plate and the Golden Slipper.

Trainers Harry Plant and Jim Atkins, jockeys Billy Pyers and John Letts and administrator Henry Byron Moore will also join the Hall of Fame.
