No.18 for Black Caviar

02/11/2012 04:56:43 AM

Unbeaten mare Black Caviar has survived her first test at seven furlongs to take out the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes in stunning style at Caulfield on Saturday.

Black Caviar settled in fourth place just off a slow pace, before releasing her trademark acceleration at the top of the straight to eventually run out an easy three-and-a-quarter length winner.

"If you were writing a script that was how you would like it to play out," jockey Luke Nolen said after the race.

"She got to the front with relative ease and travelled strongly past the leaders."

"Then I gave her a shake for about 50 yards and just let her coast (to the winning post)."

Second over the line was reigning Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed, while Playing God finished third.

But all the accolades were with Black Caviar, as the Peter Moody-trained galloper registered an 18th straight victory in a time of 1:25.14.

Moody revealed after the race that the five-year-old is now likely to back up at Flemington next Saturday in the Lightning Stakes over 1000 metres, before returning to Caulfield on February 25 for the Futurity Stakes.

"I am seriously considering taking her to Flemington next week," Moody said.

"If she has come through this okay, there is a chance you will see her again in seven days."

"And if she comes through that great, there is a chance you will see her here (Caulfield) again seven days later."

Black Caviar remains in contention to travel to Dubai in March for a sprint race on World Cup night, while the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot in June is also a distinct possibility.
