Luckygray wins Railway on protest

11/19/2011 09:20:22 AM

Luckygray claimed the Railway Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, after a protest was upheld to deny He's Remarkable - first past the post - victory in the $1 million Group 1 race.

Trained by Gino Poletti, the four-year-old gelding was adjudged the race winner after Luckygray's jockey Shaun O'Donnell claimed he was interfered with by He's Remarkable, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, with 600m to go in the mile-long encounter.

The stewards upheld the claim after long discussions, prompting the feature race to become Luckygray's fourth race win on the trot.

He's Remarkable was shuffled back to second place in the standings, while Westriver Kevydonn was third.

In the day's other feature races, the Paul Messara-trained Ortensia made it back-to-back wins with victory in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, to give jockey Craig Williams a winning double.

Williams also took out the Group 2 WA Guineas on King Saul earlier in the day.
