Hot Danish defies Doomben wet

Sydney mare Hot Danish overcame wet conditions to achieve a resounding win in the Group One Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.
Since the 10,000 became a weight-for-age contest in 1997, no filly or mare had been successful in the 1350m feature.
The Les Bridge-trained six-year-old made it back-to-back top-level wins.
Hot Danish had entered the race with a poor record in the wet. But, ridden by Tim Clark, she handled the slow (6) surface comfortably to finish ahead of Whobegotyou and Melito.
The Nothin' Leica Dane mare broke through for her first Group One success last start in the All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 24.
Both Whobegotyou and Melito finished strongly but were no match for the winner, who made a tidy start and was seventh of the 16 runners until making ground near the fence approaching the turn.
