Eight rivals for Black Caviar

Eight rivals for Black Caviar

Champion mare Black Caviar will face eight rivals in Saturday's Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

The Peter Moody-trained five-year-old, who is aiming for an 18th straight victory, will tackle a talented field that includes reigning Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed and 2007 Melbourne Cup victor Efficient.

Black Caviar will start the race from barrier five, a perfect draw that should allow top hoop Luke Nolen to settle the unbeaten star wherever he pleases in the small field.

Despite the fact Black Caviar is stepping up to 1400 metres for the first time, bookmakers have taken no chances with their early markets.

Race sponsor Sportingbet opened Black Caviar at the prohibitive odds of $1.05, while TAB Sportsbet posted an even shorter quote of $1.04.

Saturday's program kicks off with the first of nine races at 12:50pm local time, with Black Caviar's event scheduled to commence at 3:50pm.
