Boss wins Scobie Medal

Boss wins Scobie Medal

Champion hoop Glen Boss has caused a major upset by winning the Scobie Breasley Medal for Victoria's best jockey over the past 12 months.

Boss finished 16 winners behind Luke Nolen in the Melbourne jockeys premiership but the Scobie Breasley Medal is decided on a 3-2-1 stewards votes system for the best ride at each metropolitan meeting.

Boss, the three-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey who decided in 2008 to make Melbourne his permanent base, polled 46 votes to finish five votes clear of four-time Medallist Craig
Williams.

Williams would have undoubtedly won the medal if he had not spent two months rising in Japan, while Damien Oliver, who led the count going into the final month, finished with 39 votes having failed to poll in the final four months.

In other awards, TyphoonTracy won the Victorian Racehorse of the Year after claiming four Group One victories, while Bart Cummings won the Fred Hoysted Award for the most outstanding training performance of the 2009-10 season after winning the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Crown Oaks and Toorak Handicap.
