Champion sprinter Black Caviar will be rested for up to two months as trainer Peter Moody aims to have her cherry ripe for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
Fresh off her 19th consecutive win in the Lightning Stakes last weekend, Black Caviar won't be chasing victory No.20 in Saturday's Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.
She will also sit out next month's Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, as well as the Golden Shaheen in Dubai on March 31.
Moody told The Herald Sun he has put Black Caviar in an undisclosed paddock as the mare deserves some 'peace and quiet' for two weeks.
"I've got no doubt that Black Caviar could have gone to the Futurity on Saturday and just won as easily as she did in the Orr Stakes earlier in the month, but it would have been her fourth run in five weeks," he said.
"I had to look at the bigger picture. What would I have had left? She's pulled up 110 per cent from her run in the Lightning Stakes and I wanted to keep it that way."
"If she heads to the paddock in that condition it's only going to enhance her prospects for her next campaign."
Moody is looking at giving her one or possibly two runs on home soil before heading to England with the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on April 28 looking likely as well as either the Goodwood over the same distance at the same track a fortnight later or the BTC Cup at Doomben on May 12.
"Either way she will have two-and-a-half weeks back at my Caulfield stables before flying to England, three weeks before the Diamond Jubilee," Moody said.
Moody revealed his decision to not race in Dubai was because the mare would then be away for close to four months heading into the Diamond Jubilee.
"I just wasn't happy she would be away for such a long period," he said.
"So, Black Caviar will spend a couple of weeks of R&R, just enjoying herself roaming around a paddock before heading to Peter Clarke's water walker complex up at Murchison, then head back to the Caulfield stables."
"And from there we get her ready to take on the Poms at Royal Ascot. I can't wait, reckon Black Caviar will show them a thing or two."
