Bookmakers have been left smiling at an estimated £50million saving after Annie Power's last-fence fall on day one of the Cheltenham Festival left punter's seething.
Ruby Walsh was on board the Willie Mullins-trained horse for the Mares Hurdle, with the pair having tasted victory in the day's three previous races.
They were denied a perfect run, however, as Annie Power inexplicably fell through the last fence, unseating Walsh to scenes of disbelief in the stands.
The moneymen were left rubbing their hands with glee though, with a spokesman for bookmaker Ladbrokes explaining exactly why.
"We consider it to be the £50m fall," said David Williams.
"As it is, we've dodged the most expensive bullet we've ever faced and the God of bookmaking moves in mysterious ways.
"For it to happen like that ... the heart won't stand for much more!"
