Weather falls track manager's way for Caulfield Cup carnival

Caulfield will host three meetings in a week. The Blue Sapphire and Caulfield Cup fixtures will follow the Caulfield Guineas programme with 28 races scheduled for the course in that period.

Kerr said Melbourne recent hot spell has required extra water to be applied to the track but a cool change is expected to cause temperatures to drop on Tuesday afternoon.

The temperature hit 35 degrees in Melbourne on Tuesday but a southerly change will make things more comfortable for at least the next week but no rain is forecast in that period.

"The forecast is looking pretty good for the rest of the week,” Kerr said.

"We've put on 10mm yesterday and we'll put on 8mm today and probably water again on Thursday.

"The forecast is solid but if it gets warmer, we may water Friday but the ideal plan is to water Thursday and that will be enough for it (the track).”

The Melbourne Racing Club's other track at Sandown has been out of action since September 2, which has prompted the transfer of two meetings to Caulfield but Kerr said the track has coped with the added workload well with the aid of fine weather.

"The inside (section) where the rail was in the true position has held up pretty well from Underwood (Stakes) day,” Kerr said.

"With six meetings in four weeks, I thought if we get away with four days with good weather, I'd be very happy.

"It looks like we'll get through until at least next Wednesday with good weather at least so hopefully it holds until (Caulfield) Cup day.”

Kerr said he would stick to his usual plan of having the rail in the true position for the Caulfield Guineas and Blue Sapphire meetings before shifting the fence out six metres for Caulfield Cup day.
