The team Waller is preparing for the Caulfield Cup is Royal Descent, Who Shot Thebarman, Grand Marshal and Beaten Up.

Jockeys have been engaged for the quartet of horses with Glen Boss booked for Royal Descent, Who Shot Thebarman will be ridden by Blake Shinn, Jim Cassidy stays on Grand Marshal and Glyn Schofield will ride Beaten Up.

Only two of the four horses are assured of their place in the field of 18 that will face the start at Caulfield. In the latest order of entry, released after third acceptances were declared on Tuesday, Royal Descent is in ninth place, Who Shot Thebarman (15th), Grand Marshal (19th) and Beaten Up (24th).

With Preferment (ballot exempt) likely to bypass the race Grand Marshal could sneak into the final spot in the field provided no horse jumps him in the order of entry by winning Saturday's Herbert Power Stakes (2400m).

Sportsbet has Royal Descent the shortest in the Caulfield Cup of the Waller four at $21 ahead of Who Shot Thebarman ($26) with Beaten Up ($34) and Grand Marshall ($67).

Meanwhile, Waller has also announced a preliminary list of competitors from his stable for the $3 million Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 24.

"Our Cox Plate runners will be finalised after this Saturdays racing, however it is our intention at this stage to run Kermadec, Winx and Preferment,” Waller said in a press release.

Waller said "no riders have been confirmed for these runners as yet" but punters can expect to see Boss aboard Kermadec while Hugh Bowman will be in the saddle of either Winx or Preferment.

Kermadec is the $4.80 favourite for the Cox Plate ahead of Winx at $7 with Preferment on the sixth line of betting at $13.
