Williams won the first race on the Robert Smerdon-trained import Western Kingdom ($2.25 fav.) and the fourth race on Cazonet ($2.80 fav) for the same trainer with Iron Boss ($5.50) saluting in between.

Williams told Racing Victoria there were better things to come for the Mark Kavanagh-trained Iron Boss, which came from well back to power home and defeat the John O'Shea-trained Tally going away by 1 1/4-lengths in the Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1540m).

"He's a very impressive horse, very well bred and we know he's got plenty of ability," Williams said.

"The win will give him confidence and absolutely, I think he is up to stakes grade."

Kavanagh paid $475,000 for Iron Boss as a yearling and the first foal of 2009 VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume is entered for the Victoria Derby and Cox Plate.

"He's nominated for all the big races so I'll wait and see. He went pretty good today" Kavanagh said.

"His mother won the Oaks and he's by a great sire in Street Cry so I do think he's headed for bigger and better things."
