The Championships: Betting Guide - Day Two

First Seal

The $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes has drawn an international field with the Japanese horses the key runners at Sydney's Royal Randwick.

After Day 1 of The Championships was postponed, then run in wet conditions on Easter Monday, we stump up for what looks like another rain-affected track.

Not as good a day of betting as last weekend, when we found a $19 winner, and Sydney winners at $7 and $5.50.

But there's three good, bettable races we're keen to have a crack at.

Sportsbet have another great special if you're betting on the first four races at Randwick. You'll get money back up to $100 on your first win bet.

All times AEST.

1.55pm Randwick Race 5

Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (Group 2) 1200m

BET: 3 Delectation - Comes back from chasing home Brazen Beau and Chautauqua in the Newmarket to a winnable race against his own age. Quality sprinter who's been placed at Group 1 level, and his first-up run was excellent. Hugh Bowman goes back on top. He's never raced on badly rain-affected ground, but interestingly has trialled in these conditions five times for three wins and a placing. You'll get double figure odds too.

DANGER - 4 Kuro - Very good in the Group 1 Galaxy last start, and another coming back to his own age group. Jockey Blake Shinn has partnered with him in his most successful outings, and goes back on here. Back both he and Delectation if the price allows.

3.15pm Randwick Race 7

Queen Of the Turf Stakes (Group 1 Fillies and Mares) 1600m

BET: 14 First Seal - Simply didn't stay the mile and a quarter when beaten last time, and is brilliantly suited back to a mile here. Group 1 winner at only start this distance. Well weighted against the older mares, and has only missed a place once in her 10 starts. This looks her race.

DANGER: 2 Catkins - Can this wonderful grey mare break her Group 1 duck? Super consistent, and in career-best form. If she's going to do it, it'll be here. Brazilian whiz Joao Moreira goes on board in an interesting jockey change.

4.35pm Randwick Race 9

Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1) 2000m

BET: 10 To The World - The Japanese horses hold the key here. To The World was excellent first-up for three months when worn down in The BMW, when he raced three-wide at a critical stage. Extra fitness, a distance drop, and hopefully a better run in transit will help. Zac Purton's done it before with Japanese horses in Group 1 races - winning on Admire Rakti in the Caulfield Cup. Two from three at 2000m. Beaten less than a length by the champion mare Gentildonna in December, but note that English racing bible Racing Post rated To The World's run superior in that race.

DANGER: 11 Tosen Stardom - Stablemate to To The World who'll improve from a really brave first-up second at Group 1 level to Contributer last time out. On-pacer who'll probably go forward from wide alley and give them something to chase.

NOTE: 1 Contributer has been excellent all three wins this campaign and form around him has stood up all autumn. Throw him in with the Japanese pair in your multiples.
