Shinn monitoring progress of carnival filly

Shinn made a successful trip to Melbourne last Saturday, winning aboard Madam Gangster in the Group III Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield for family members Lee and Shannon Hope.

This Saturday will see the leading jockey back in Sydney for Randwick's Chelmsford Stakes meeting. While he looks to maintain his spot at the top of the Sydney jockey ranks, Shinn will also have one eye on Moonee Valley where the Toby Edmonds-trained Sagaronne resumes from a winter freshen-up in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m).

Shinn built a strong association with Sagaronne over the Brisbane winter carnival, winning the Listed Phoenix (1350m) and placing in the Group I JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m), but a prior commitment to ride in Sydney this weekend has seen Craig Williams booked to partner the three-year-old filly.

Shinn said he is hopeful of reuniting with Sagaronne this spring as she heads towards the Group I Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Group I VRC Crown Oaks (2500m).

"She's a lovely big filly with plenty of scope,” Shinn said.

"I thought she would only improve from that winter campaign and judging by the reports from her trials she's come back in exceptional order.

"I would have loved to have been on her back first-up but with her being in Melbourne, I had a commitment to ride English but hopefully after that I can get back on her.”

Sagaronne, which opened as high as $71 in early markets for the Thousand Guineas, is a filly that shouldn't be taken lightly this spring, according to Shinn.

"Whatever she runs in she's going to be a force to be reckoned with,” Shinn said. "She went from a Gold Coast maiden to winning a Listed race and it takes a good horse to do that.

"She's got a great physique and gives you the impression that she will get over ground and she attacks the line, her best work is always the last 200. To me they are always good signs.”

Online bookmaker Sportsbet has Sagaronne listed as a $10 chance on Saturday.
