Quinton, a former champion jockey himself, has developed an eye for young riding talent having previously mentored the likes of Hugh Bowman and Sam Clipperton, both of whom are currently in the top five on the Sydney Jockeys' Premiership.

Adkins hails from Port Macquarie where he was indentured to Marc Quinn before making the switch to the city.

The 18-year-old has ridden more than 80 winners and claims 3kg in provincial and metropolitan areas.

In his first official ride for Quinton, Adkins steered Gold Torque to victory in a benchmark 65 contest at Newcastle's Beaumont track last Saturday.

"He had three rides at Newcastle on Saturday and won two of them, including one for me,” Quinton said.

"I think he rides well and he's a promising lad, very promising.

"Over the next couple of years he's got to put his head down and work hard but I like what I've seen from him.

"I've been keeping my eyes out (for an apprentice), I'm always looking.”

Among Quinton's other former apprentices are Brad Pengelly, Mitch Newman and Bobby El-Issa.

Adkins is managed by his father Brett Adkins who can be contacted for bookings on 0413 024 381.
