Oliver, Waller dominate Derby Day

Damien Oliver

Waller and Oliver teamed up with maiden Preferment to win the Victoria Derby, beating Bondeiger and Nozomi, as favourite Hampton Court blew up badly in the straight.

Oliver also won the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes on South Australian horse Happy Trails.

And Waller and Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira shared Group 1 success with Brazen Beau in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Waller trained a treble on the day, also winning an earlier race with Kermadec.

Meanwhile, the Darren Weir-trained Signoff won his way into the Melbourne Cup field with victory in The Lexus.

Signoff has been well backed to win the Cup, now into second favourite behind Japan's Caulfield Cup winner Admire Rakti.

Boom sprinter Deep Field made it five wins from five starts with a brave win in the Tab.com.au Stakes, the final race of the day.
