Magic Hurricane earns Cups penalty

Magic Hurricane, prepared by John O'Shea's Godolphin team, was originally allotted a featherweight of 50kg which placed him on the periphery of potential Caulfield Cup starters.

However a two-length win in last Saturday's Group I The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick convinced the handicappers to raise the six-year-old's weight to 52.5kg for the Cups.

The 52.5kg brings Magic Hurricane on par with the Cups weight of Metropolitan runner-up Beaten Up.

Meanwhile, Nigel Blackiston's Let's Make Adeal has been handed a 0.5kg penalty after winning the Listed Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on Sunday.

The 2015 edition of the Bart Cummings was the first time the race provided Melbourne Cup ballot exemption to the winner. Let's Make Adeal will now carry 50.5kg in Australia's greatest race.
