Jockey Lewis Ferguson insists he is "absolutely fine" after a horror fall during a jumps horse race on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old amateur jockey was riding 4-7 favourite Merrion Square in the John Dufosee Memorial Open Hunters' Chase at Wincanton when he was spectacularly thrown from the saddle.
As his mount changed direction heading to the last hurdle, Ferguson was thrown into the fence and flipped over twice in mid-air before landing on his back.
There was immediate concern from race officials, but Ferguson was able to walk away unaided.
Wincanton's clerk of the course, Barry Johnson, described the incident to the Guardian as "the worst fall I've ever seen". However, Ferguson appeared unscathed, and later tweeted "Would just like to thank everyone for the messages!! Bit of a sore head but on the whole absolutely fine!!"
